It's our passion to work with the land to allow it to provide all the life and healing that it was created by God to provide. Our farm had been a large potato farm many generations ago and the commercialized methods of tillage seemed to strip our soil such that it didn't grow much more than brambles and less desirable moisture-sucking weeds. The soil was very compacted, so we began researching methods for helping the soil, but we didn't have a ton of money to pour into it. We discovered multiple methods for improving the soil from a gardening standpoint first, but it took a while before we found methods to improve the fields. So, we started with the "Back To Eden" gardening method and began placing wood chips on the garden area along with compost from the landfill, and the results after the first year were amazing. Weeding became so easy because the soil became so loose without any tilling and the water need became minimal and the produce flourished without fertilizer. It was amazing but how would we improve the pasture? And so, we continued to research and discovered rotational grazing using an electric fence and bringing in chickens to follow the livestock. Needless to say, if you've followed people like Justin Rhodes or Joel Salatin and Greg Judy you know the results are amazing at redeeming the soil. An amazing farmer up north, Gabe Brown gave us a vision for what our farm can become and though we aren't there yet, we feel we have come a long way and maybe someday we will get to realize the dream of a field-to-fork restaurant right here on the hill.
All of us have been created for a purpose, we just needed someone to redeem us so that we can be what we were created for! We believe that Jesus redeemed us from an unfruitful existence on a Hill and one of the ways we want to live that out is by redeeming our hill to produce life-giving fruit as well.
